OAKLEIGH CANNONS NEWS

Game Review: Round 8:

Cavaliers Win Physical Encounter

The Oakleigh Cannons experienced a very physical game against the Cavaliers at Green Gully Reserve in Keilor on Saturday night which saw the later take all three points with a two goals to one win.

The game unfortunately developed into an unfashionable display by the Cavaliers.

Green Gully firstly had their coach, Ian Dobson sent off the ground at the 20 minute mark and the Green Gully team itself received five yellow cards and one red card to the Green Gully Cavaliers player, Mile Medjedovic.

There were many a crude tackle exerted by the Cavaliers on the Oakleigh players.

The Oakleigh Cannons controlled the game in the first half and were unfortunate on several occasions not to open the scoring line.

The Cannons showed creativity and solid football but did not bother the score board attendant in the first half.

The Cannons hit the Green Gully goal post on several occasions and to the amazement of the players and the crowd, the ball did not go into the net. This frustration continued a couple of more times in the first half when the Cavaliers had to clear several goal bound attempts off the Gully goal line.

To say the Cannons were unlucky would be an understatement.

It was the Cavaliers in the 23rd minute that scored the first goal of the game. To Oakleighs credit, they continued with their positive attacking style of play. At half time the Cavaliers were leading by one goal to nil.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first half.

The game was played hard, fast and physical with neither team giving a centimetre of space or time on the ball.

Oakleigh needed some good change of fortune to get back into the game.

Unfortunately for the Oakleigh Cannons, the Cavaliers scored their second goal on the 77th minute mark.

Oakleighs legend, Bill Damianos scored their first goal in the 91st minute but it was all too late.

Even though the Oakleigh Cannons undefeated run has ended, the team showed good character and will now be concentrating against their next opponent, the Melbourne Knights who are currently in sizzling form.
